This is the third bow I've made this spring as I have too much time on my hands, being that I'm a high school science teacher with a student teacher.

It is an amber actionboo core with myrtle laminations from tradgang member and sponsor idahocurt of  www.hunterbows.com      The riser is dark myrtle from  www.rosewoodarchery.com.   During glueup I had the laminations slide and I almost couldn't cut a bow out of it.  Was able to make it work and here it is. I just thought this wood was too beautiful not to share.   Just need to think up a name now.  Hmmmmmm.

The stack:

.040 up glass
.030 myrtle
.120. .002"tapered  aboo
.120. 002"tapered aboo
.110 .001" taper
.110 .001"taper
.030 myrtle
.040 up glass

You really haven't hunted the old fashion way until you've done it from one of these Indian houses.(The Tipi) "Glenn ST. Charles"

Thanks mwosborn.  This student teaching thing drove me nuts in two days.  I started researching Hill bow design and one week later I was ordering materials.  Our shop room has all the forms, hot box and tools.  I just never expected to make bows that looked so good and shoot so well.  I have two Howard Hill bows that may never get shot anymore.     ;)

Thanks for sharing, it sure is a beauty....Dan

" Vegetarian" another word for bad hunter.

That is awesome.  You will just have to give them to some friends and make some more.  I just started this past year and have only built some self bows.  It sure is addictive.  Want to try glass this coming summer.

That's NICE!
There's nothing like the clean lines of simple longbow made with awesome woods.

I shot 3 of the 4 he made this past weekend, very nice!!  And I own one too (thanks!!), we made some grip changes and I'll put up some pics when its done. It's a very unique wood like the myrtle bow, spalted sycamore.

Besides beautiful, they are about 1/2" string follow, very smooth, accurate, and right where a hill bow is for speed.  I was not a huge fan of string follow bows, but these I really enjoyed. I'll be turkey hunting with it this spring and I foresee some deer hunts.

Maybe you should have been a shop teacher too.

That's a very nice bow! Does the myrtle stink to you when you sand it? I've been working on some myrtle and I hate the way it smells.

typical2

It does smell a bit when working with it.  I thought it might be dull bandsaw blades though.  It is a lot better than working wenge though.  That stuff makes me feel terrible! (I like the looks of it though)

Some more pics of the riser wood.
