How long can the bark stay on a white wood stave before the stave deteriorates. I know it is easier to remove when the wood is green and cut in the spring, but that is not always possible. I have some black cherry that has had the bark on for 6 months, is that a problem.

I've never worked with black cherry before, but I have worked a HHB log that was stored in a garage for almost 10 years with the bark on.  The wood was excellent.

If it was stored properly otherwise it should be fine.

After being split was stored in the basement workshop. I have some others that have been stored in the garage (dry) that I still need to clean up. Will make time in the future to do it while the cambium layer is still wet, whole lot easier to get it off clean then.
Thanks guys.
