Glass Riser

Question can a mostly glass riser work?  Bow would be a 62" one piece longbow r/d design with a 18" handle.
 What I was thinking is 10 pieces of .05 clear glass, 1 piece of 1/8" osage, 1 piece 1/4" phenolic, 1 piece of 1/8" osage followed by 10 more pieces of clear glass.  Which would give me my riser size.
 This would give me alot of glue lines and with the osage and phenolic I would think it would be strong.  But would give a really different but neat look.
Anybody done this or would it work?

Check with Robertfishes, he put quite a few pcs in his wifes bow. Looked cool too.

Just a thought tho, the clear glass will be kind of a greenish cast all stacked up with finish on it.

I used a bunch of glass in this 18 1/2" R/D longbow riser there is 26 layers of glass not including overlay in grip. I used 040 glass sanded 2 sides and a bunch of core tuff.. I made fades long and thin and used a 24" 030 power lam to extend the riser fades

Kenny anyway to make it not green up or anything might help?

I think the resin in the glass gives it the greenish cast.

Either use colored glass, or more wood strips(not too much glass stacked in one spot)

Or try it and see what it looks like! Be our test guy on it...  :D

L8, no problems. I glued up the glass first in the form, on the last piece of glass I left un sanded side up and had a piece of tape on it. Then when smooth on cured I pulled tape and sanded with 80 grit and glued on the Zebra wood pieces also in the form, I didn't have any springback and the riser is very stiff. I did extend the riser fade using a 24" powerlam made from actionboo it was 030 at the end of glass fade sanded to paper thin at end.   Mass weight of riser feels great and I was able to cut shelf about 3/16" past center. Helen uses this bow for target shooting, indoor and outdoor..she just shot an outdoor 720 round and target distance was 70 meters.

I have a block of solid glass or I guess a panel from my pheonalic supplyer. It is epoxy base has that green hue. Its a heavyweight but in a longbow not to bad.you would have to take the panel im not cutting it.e mail me good price.jgirardi002@att.net
