Hello all,

I have a project that I need to do for a physics class of mine that is due at the end of the semester and I am hoping to do mine on trad bows and their force-draw curves. I am looking to see if any general conclusions can be drawn from a force-draw graph and the shape of the bow. I have access to a few bows with which I can gather my own data but I was hoping for a larger sample size which I was hoping you all would be able to assist me with.

I know there is tons of like information available already, but I think I would get a better grade for the project (which is pretty substantial percent of my overall grade, the project is a replacement for a final exam) if I were to conduct my own study. Plus it'd be more fun this way.

The information I would need is:

AMO Bow length (unstrung, tip-tip):
AMO draw weight (poundage @ 28"):
Bow type (longbow, reflex/deflex, recurve):
Bow materials (wood, wood composite, fiberglass, other):
Brace Height (at whatever your preference is):
String Material (Dacron B-50 is preferred to keep things consistent but please use whatever you have and not it):
Data points for draw weight in per inch increments up to 30" draw or whatever you feel comfortable with (so draw the bow 1" and record draw weight and inches. draw another inch and record draw weight and inches. etc up to 30". Measurements to be made from BACK-side of grip to knock point on string.)
Pictures of bow at each measurement (if possible):

I figured the bowyers section was the best place for this since you guys are probably the ones best equipped to make these measurements accurately.

If you wish to participate please email me and I will send you an excel spreadsheet so all you have to do is plug in the information, the spreadsheet will also automatically generate a force draw curve for your reference. My email is zze86@yahoo.com.

Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you all in advance.    :archer2:

I will help you out on this. Look for an email from "bdimond6174573@gmail.com". I will be doing the measurements by myself so I would need a third hand to take pictures but the other data will be no problem.  :D

I don't have a scale at the moment so I can't get accurate info for you, sorry. I do have a question for you though on your draw length measurement. Do you want to measure from the belly or the back. I think AMO is 1.75" forward of the deepest part of the handle, please correct me if I'm wrong. I usually measure from the front of the riser/handle area. Your measurement would seem to have uys pulling bows to a real draw length of 31.75" if they measure from the belly of the bow. If I'm wrong on this please let me know and if I can get a scale I will definetly get you some information.
Keep the wind in your face and the sun at your back.

I'm sorry I got my terminology turned around. I'll edit my original post. Thanks for pointing that out.

From the BACK of the bow grip please (or the side facing away from you if you were going to shoot the bow). don't add any extra inches to the measurement.

AMO talks about a "pivot point" in the grip + 1.75" which is kind of abstract.
