Anyone using Gordons carbon uni as backing, on the outside of the limb back with nothing over the top of it, glass, etc? Just curious how durable it would be under an epoxy finish. I've used it several times as a core lam under a wood veneer and clear glass. Any info would be appreciated. I recently built a set of my newly designed TD hybrid LB limbs using the Gordon carbon on the outside back and was very happy with the performance and shooting characteristics but have it covered with copperhead limb skins. I've been looking online for a suppier of carbon laminates with a smooth woven matrix on one side.

Ridgerunner,

I have built several bows with Gordon's Uni-Carbon as both back and belly with Thunderbird finish.  I have had only one "set-back" when I had a very abrupt fade and the belly failed at the fade.  Since then I have made several more with close attention paid to a gradual fade and they are great shooting bows.

Sometimes Bingham's has sanded one-side carbon and if not Dale Stahl usually has it.

Carbon on back and belly is sweet because it allows one to make the core about 2/3 as thick as glass and the lower mass makes for great shooting.

Thunderbird finish is also great.  I have never tried Fullerplast.

Does Dale have a website or do you have contact info? Bingham has it sanded one side but only in .035.

Thanks

Hey Kent great to see you back at it!  Old Cupcake is my instructor in bowmaking. He helped me make a double carbon LB last summer using his design and it is great!  Dale is also selling foam lams in case you want to go crazy.

Good to hear from you Norb. Hope all is well. Did you build a one pc LB? I'd like to see it if you got some pics. Been seeing a lot about the foam cores. I may have to give them a try.

Nope. It was a 3 piece. It is very fast and crazy quiet. I will post some pics this weekend. Kevin ( Cupcake) is very detailed in his approach. It helps to be an aerospace engineer   :readit:
