Who has done this? Has anybody done this?

BBO with a glued up core.

I have 4 Hedge slats that after I planned them down would make a stack of about 9/16" thick.

This what I'm pondering. Gluing them together. I'm thinking the Belly slat (and maybe the next slat in)I would taper down to the tip end from the handle before gluing up. I'm thinking I would do the glue up of the Hedge on the form with the bamboo in place like a typical glue up.

I quess my question is, am I thinking in the wrong direction
and just setting myself up for a bunch of problems and wasting a good piece of bamboo?

I guess if I had a bunch of Hedge at my finger tips I wouldn't be thinking about this, but that's how it is.

So, what do you folks think?  Thanks.

Don't see why it wouldn't work.

Sounds interesting. Would you mind posting a few pictures as you build? The wood store where I live has some osage slats and I was thinking of something similar.

I'd taper a mid lam Matt. Gives you more room to tiller the belly before hitting a glue line. I pretaper my mid lams in a trilam bow and glue them all up at the same time.

What weight you shooting for. 9/16 sounds pretty hefty.
Reason I bring it up if you were looking for something like 50 pounds you might get into glue lines trying to reduce the weight.

This is what I came up with last night after studying another BBO bow I have.

I guess I should outline what I'm trying to end up with.

Bow length will be 63" NTN. I'm looking for something around 55-60#@27". D/R in geometry.

I have 4 slats I'm gonna laminate. From back to belly the thickness are 4/32, 4/32, 3/32 and 5/32. Total thickness at the handle will be 1/2" of Osage.

The belly lam I'm gonna leave at full thickness of 5/32". the two middle lams will be tapered from the handle to the tips to 2/32" and the back lam will taper to 3/32". So at the tips I'll have a thickness of 12/32" or 3/8".

With the 5/32" on the belly side lam I'm hoping I'll have enough material to tiller without getting to the glue joint.

What do you all think?

Sounds just about right to me, I can't wait to see it done.

That sounds really close for that weight.
Take some picture as you progress. Looking forward to the outcome.
