there is about 1/4 to 3/8 inch on the back with some pretty good size knots. I got some goat hide and a bunch of sinew, I am going to use one or the other on this one. It's a spookie stave for sure but I haven't had the pleasure of blowing one up yet      :)

ERC does have that reputation  :biglaugh: ! Makes great kindling too!

I wouldn't waste any sinew of rawhide backing finding out. Instead, I think I would use a temporary backing such as nylon strapping tape or something similar first, and if it stayed together, remove that and then use a permanent backing.

Not a lot of experience with ERC but I think I would get the M/C up slightly for better odds of it staying together.

The stave is 5 months old and looks as dry as the desert....  It's got a little deflex but I don't think I'll be using any heat on it.

I think that pyramid design is the right design for that particular piece of wood. They do make very quick bows. A little deflex is probably a good thing I'm thinking.

What's the NTN measurement going to be?

coaster500

Art the stave is 65"s end to end so 63"s or so.

45/50 @27"s is where I'd like it to end up.

Right now it's about 2"s at the fades.

kip back er with rawhide leave it 2 wide wider is better w erc but shoot for a lower poundage erc doesnt like heat id leave it as is make it into a "d" bow just like that tiller carfel bro when erc blows it dang sure blows lol
yep im a bowaholic,, elkaholic !!!

Well I took the ERC a bit further today....  when I drew the bow I kept hearing a creeping, creaking sound. It has some really nasty knots and I think the core of one is loose. When I shot it a few times it developed a bit of a hinge right at the biggest knot. It filled the knot with crazy glue but I don't hold much hope for this one making a bow for much longer. I did shoot it a bit more was glad I wear
glasses    :scared:

It also twisted more after shooting so I'm really not shure what to do at this point?

If it shot, then its a bow. Congratulations on making it that far on a difficult piece.

Video #3 looks like there are two hinges in the lower limb, one right by the fade and then another about 2/3 down the limb. As DV said, if it shoots its a bow and that one shoots. Congrates and see if you ca get the tiller worked out, who cares what the weight is, that bow is a feat.

I should just hang it up and count myself lucky but I'm kind of stubborn and think I'll fiddle with it a bit more. I have my motorcycle helmet and goggles  :)

Maybe I'll see if I can get it straight then work on the tiller again. It's got some twist to go with the hinges now.... I dumped a quart of crazy glue in the knots...   Maybe I'll catch it blowing on video or maybe a miracle and it stays together????

I hope it works out for ya but be careful. When erc breaks its not pretty. Usually shatters violently with no warning.

Living on the edge - keep up posted!  I have some erc drying in the garage - but no motorcycle helmet!
