When buying osage for a laminated or backed bow, what do you look for in the wood? The reason I ask is the other day, while buying some wood for cutting lams, I saw some 1" osage. It appeared to be sawn, but I didn't give it much thought as it looked pretty rough. For sawn wood, it was twisted, warped and bent. I didn't think I could do much with it. It's kind of expensive here where I live, so I don't want to waste money on less than good wood.
I'm looking at all my options for my trade bow. I'm planning to build a few bows until I'm satisfied with the results, then use what I learn to build the trade bow.

Thanks Stiks. It's good to have options if I can't get good wood here.

Dvs and i are about due to buy a couple new osage logs. We have talked about takng one to the saw mill near where our supply is. Anyone have any idea what a 14-20" by 7' log costs to get milled?
