Binghams Takedown Recurve Riser Size

I am currently working on my first Takedown Recurve with Binghams kit.

It's a 60" @ 55# 3/4"

The problem I see coming up is the riser they sent me is 1 7/8" thick - this looks right as their blueprints are for a 1 7/8" wide riser but shouldn't it be the same with as my limbs (which are more like 1 5/8" and 2" limbs are more like 1 7/8")?

If the riser block is only 7/8" thick it won't work. It should be at least as thick as the limbs are wide. If it isn't call Elmont and he will make it right.

Limbs on template are about 1 1/2" and the riser block is 1 7/8" so there's about an 3/16" on each side of the limb where I can see riser.

I'm sure it will end up being more of a style/visual thing so it's not a huge deal. Probably is for the better as I will then be able to use 2" and 1 3/4" limbs on this riser, but just want to make sure it's right.

You need to cut or sand the riser to match the width of the limbs.

Kinda wish the Binghams site recommends 2" since most of their instructions and materials are for 2" limbs :(

It is all relitive. You can make the bow any size you want width wise (within reason). So when you do your stack for weight, you over shoot a bit. I usually build 1 3/4" bow.. but they end up being 1 5/8" after final sanding and shaping. Most of my risers start off at 2" or 1 7/8", but then all the shaping and sanding gets it down to where it is needed.

So no worries.. just sand the riser sides down to meet the limbs.. it will be a nice looking fit.

So you are basically saying to leave it at 1 7/8 for all the tillering/etc and then when I shape the riser to just bring it in at the limbs?

Sounds like a decent enough idea.

The reason I was worried about just bringing the riser down to size is that the shelf and arm widths would all be offset.

You will be working off a center line when tillering and prfiling the limbs cut the self to that centerline and you will be fine.
