removing a bad smell.

Just a quick question. I recently bought a new strap on quiver for my longbow and there is a bad smell coming from the two rubber arrow clips on the back that are there to hold a small game arrow. I've been leaving it out in the sun and air to try and dissipate the stink (it really is strong), but it hasn't helped any. Does anyone know of a way to get rid of a strong rubbery smell short of getting rid of the clips? I like being able to have a small game arrow with me when I hunt.

Unless it really bothers you, I wouldnt worry about. Deer arent scared of rubber smell, just human scent.

Thanks, it was the deer I was worried about. If it doesn't bother them I guess it's ok. Eventually the smell will go away by itself and it won't bother me either.

I don't know about rubber smell but vanilla extract
Will take out rotten fish smell from coolers. Deer like the smell of vanilla.

If it's bad enough you could cover it with skunk.

I don't know if it will work, but what about making a paste with some baking powder and scrubbing it with that.

Greg, I don't know about having eau du skunk a few inches from my nose when I shoot  :p  
The baking soda might help though.
Thanks all for your advice, but it might be for nothing this season if I can't repair the broken tip on my bow.  :(

I stole this from another site. If all else fails it's a cheap option to try:

White Vinegar

Fill a large bucket with water and add 1/2 cup of vinegar.  Allow for the rubber to sit within formula for one hour and remove from water.  The vinegar will have neutralized much of the exterior of the rubber leaving it odorless.

DGF, thanks. I don't know why I didn't think of that one. I used to work in a vinegar plant and we sometimes used it for cleaning,etc.

Deer love the smell of vanilla. Place a few drops where you want them to stop, and they will stop and smell it:) Then ya thump em good...
