TD # 2 (&3) PROTOTYPES

Had a little time this weekend and too danged hot to do much outside, so I started another TD longbow. Actually 2 more to get data on weight vs stack, only tweak on the next is to thin the wedges to .300 instead of .375, still 8" length. Just looked like overkill on thickness,we'll see.....

And making from some exotics that I had slivers left from orders that wouldn't make 2 pairs which most folks want for their bows to match back/belly. I don't mind 2 different woods tho! LOL

Here is one riser, the other is in the hotbox...

Zebra and Jatoba(Brazilian cherry) with bloodwood accents. Hope this works like
I think it will...

Oh yeah, bloodwood wedges for this one.

And the lams for thisun , zebra were broke on the end about 2", jatoba were left from my son's bow 2-3 years ago(why do I keep this stuff around so long???) :rolleyes:

Are you going to build a less "fancy" riser this time?

I really don't mind that the back and the belly have different lams, makes me think it's a backed all wood bow. I like those that have lams on the back and osage or yew on the belly.

Dave ,on the thinner wedge, I'm hopin it bends the wedge just slightly more from riser to fade, just barely!!

Pete, I need to build these 2 and then decide what else needs to happen to her first.

And the riser will be fancier than # 1 cause it was plain ol actionwood, these will be a little better lookin..... :D

Kenny after shooting #1 last week at MoJam I can't wait to see 2 & 3. #1 was smooth as silk on the draw, and I even shot tight groups, must have been a miracle bow, because you know me, I couldn't hit a bull in the

with a banjo.

#1 is lookin to be my pick to hunt with this fall, had another bow tuned and ready, but #1 is swayin me over! :D

Thanks guys, will see fri if my super cheapo drill jig is done, will have bout 60.00 in it.

May work and may have blown 60.00 ! LOL

Then on to the limbs,have all lams and wedges for # 2 made! :cool:

That canine in the riser is going to look really cool-especially once your shelf is cut out. Hope your drilling jig works-post some pictures once you find out.

Thats what I was hopin Dave, kind of a switcheroo at the cut!

Got the drill jig picked up and added the holdinplacer thingies(or sideboards). LOL

Here are the 2 blocks...

And the jig,got 70.00 in it, but woulda been 60.00 cept for a buying mistake on the 1.5 x 1.5 x 5 steel(bought 6" long)

Even used 1/8" curly maple to be fancy( or cause its hard and was layin there)

The riser block with 12 degree limb pad( a slight change from 14 degree on # 1) and equal layers of tape to bring it to 1.5" width, jig is .009" over 1.5 wide and blocks slightly under...

Mounts like this with block flush with end of riser, then other end with end of limb after cutting off the customary 1/4" :cool:

Didn't have hole sizes marked here, so from right 1/4--1/4--27/64--5/16

Hope thats right!! LOL

Here you drill hole on right and 3rd from right, and then on the limb you drill the other 2

NOTE: the drill jig was off .001" on one 1/4" hole on one side of the jig, so I marked the good side as workpiece side.

Much better than the .020" offcenter on one hole on the last jig I bought,you know the one made for 1.5 to 2" wide stock with the center marks and thumbscrews.

Hey Shawn, shoulda stopped in! I reckon you were on I-70 tho, be a long ways out of the way!

Shot #2 today, came in heavy, but like a dummy I changed 2 things, not one. Now I can only guess whether the .010 added stack or the 2 degree less limb pad angle changed what? !

I'll go back to original stack when I do #3 and leave the limb pads at 12 degrees. :cool:

I'll get some pics up when I get things smoothed out a bit more!

Oh yeah,right now it is 57# ,prob end up about 54-55, but it doesn't feel like that much. I must be feelin stout today or new bow syndrome has struck again! :D
