Over the Hill and Fudge Ripple

I just finished two bows, or, to be exact I finished one and Jesse and I finished one. Jesse had built a bow under my guidance last fall (see "Bamboo Beauty") and wanted to do another as a birthday present for his father. He did a lot more of the work on this one and made all of the decisions as far as the style of the bow and woods went. Simultaneously, I was working on another bow and the two ended up being finished at the same time and sharing their photo session. So, here are "Over the Hill", Jesse's present to his dad, and "Fudge Ripple".

Layup for Over the Hill:
.040 glass clear
.060 zebra wood parallel
.105 laminated bamboo tapered .0015
bamboo power wedges/walnut tip wedges
.105 laminated bamboo tapered .0015
.090 quilted maple parallel
.040 glass clear
Total Wood Stack: .360
Total Stack: .440
Riser: 15" laminated Katalox
Shoulder: 1.20"
Specs: 66" 55@28
Design: Forward Scout pattern, straight limb, deep locator front riser
Over the Hill is a fairly broad limbed flatbow, as Jesse was aiming for 55@28, which we hit exactly.

Layup for Fudge Ripple:
.040 glass clear
.120 Ambrosia Maple (spalted maple produced by invasion of the Ambrosia Beetle)
.112 walnut tapered .0015
walnut power lams / tip wedges
.090 walnut parallel
.040 glass clear
Total Wood Stack: .322
Total Stack: .402
Riser: 18" Bubinga
Shoulders: .998
Design: Basic Straight Hill style
Specs: 66" 35@28

Over the Hill's katalox riser, back of bow

Over the Hill, belly and locator side of riser

Over the Hill katalox locator forward riser

Over the Hill riser, offside, nice little burl up top

Fudge Ripple and Over the Hill

Limbs, belly: walnut belly on Fudge Ripple and quilted maple on Over the Hill

Limbs, back: ambrosia maple on Fudge Ripple (you can see where the name came from) and zebrawood on Over the Hill. The spalted maple was surprising. Before glassing the background color was much lighter. As it appears here, it could easily pass for bacote or zebra.

Shortly after the picture session, Fudge Ripple got a laced leather wrap.

All in all, two quite nice bows. Over the Hill is a fairly heavy bow. It's 55# and the katalox is a very heavy wood. Fudge Ripple is a very slim, light bow at 18 oz.... much more in my normal range.

I didnt miss, thats right where I was aiming

PEARL DRUMS

The reverse grip has always intrigued me. I have never shot one though. Its gotta feel good when you let that string go.

Very nice.  Both bows are very cool looking.  I'm more partial to the dark limbs but that's just me.
