Lumber for board build.

Went to a cabinet shop down the road and found this. At only $5 buck or both I don't think I can go wrong.
One piece of red oak and a piece of cherry wood.  The red oak is 64" long and over 6 1/2" wide.  The cherry wood is 45" long and 4" wide.  What do you think about the cherry wood for the riser and tips?

Any thought's about combo, I was thinking about 60" to 62" and going for around 48 to 50 lbs. at 27"?

You may want to consider a tad longer if your using red oak with no backing, maybe 62-64".

Depending on design you have 2 or 3 bows in that oak. I would recommend 4est trekkers Pyramid bow thread for a design that makes a very nice bow, but any board bow design will work with that wood. It looks great, I like the quartersawn wood myself as long as there are not too many runouts and there don't look to be too many in that piece.
As for the cherry it is useless for anything pretty on a bow like risers and tips, you should get rid of it right away so you are not tempted. In fact send it to me and I'll take care of its dispossal for you. If you feel like getting rid of that gnarled piece of firewood that is in the picture with it as well fee free to send it along too.

Straight grained is what you want but even a tiny knot may destroy a board bow. Jawge
