Started my string jig today got most of it ready.  All I need to do is put a finish on it, I think.  Comments welcomed.

Got it all laid out and ready to go.

Drilled holes for pegs.

Got the pegs in and ready to put nails in place.

Got the nails in and just about there.

Ready to put finish on, not sure which I will use.

  ;)

Looks pretty fancy, but you did a good job.
I only use one nail in the center holes for string length and just move it to the number for the length I want.
I used the pattern that I got from here on Trad Gang and my string length came out 2" short on the first couple of strings I made so I changed the numbers to coordinate the proper length.

I checked and rechecked my measurements and they were exactly to plan specs, so I don't know what the deal was?
If you used the same plan you might want to note that before you make up more than one string at first.

Phil, that is a nice looking jig! Looks to be walnut?

What Semo says is true. There is really no universal jig when it comes to measurements.

The principles of construction are the same, but we tend to twist and measure loops for different bows such as longbow and recurves differently!

When you make your strings keep notes, mark your jig as such. You will have to "Custom Fit" the jig to your style!

Just like Glass bowyers, the construction principles are the same, but the formulas to acheive them are different!

That's what I say, cause I mean it!  :D

Frank, thanks for the info and it is Cedar found in an old barn maybe 20 years old or so the Cedar not the barn.  I have 4 other boards, random width.  Sure has some nice color and still smells nice.
