Paper back question?

I was going to paper back a board bow I have been working on. One question I have is after I glue down the paper and have worked out the bubbles ect.. do I want to put a layer of glue over the outside? Or will the paper wick enough glue I don't need to?

Never done a paper backing, but I would treat it same as linen, layer of TB3 then apply material, work bubbles out and aplly a light coat of glueover the material.

You want the paper and glue to be a homogeneous backing like fiber glass cloth and resin are. So get the glue to saturate the paper and if it doesn't cover the back with glue.

TBIII is kinda thickish, doesn't soak into the paper bag well, and I didn't want to add worthless mass & waste glue on backings. Glue the paper down well, and then wipe the excess squeezed out glue w/ soaking wet hands onto the topside. The diluted glue soaks into the top of the paper well and does the job.

You can thin the glue with water and not adversely affect the adhesion. If the paper has a finish on it it may not absorbe the glue well.

Thanks Pat and KochNE I will water it down if needed. I am going to sand the out the recurve tips alittle more and glue it up today.

If your recurve tips are static there is no reason to back them. It will just add more physical weight. Stop the backing about 6" from the tip and put a decorative wrap at the end.

Will I want to add my wrap after I tiller it?
I have alot of fly tying thread and floss will that work?

Need to finish the tiller or the wrap will interfere unless it's in a finished non working section. Any type of thread or sinew just so the glue can soak in. You can also add saw dust to glue to make it a paste to smooth over the wrap then sand when dry to a smooth finish.

I use silk thread but fly tying thread will work. Use a heavier gauge fly thread because it should be wrapped tightly. I seal wraps with super glue. Let it cure and sand it with very fine sandpaper coat with glue again and sand it smooth again. This makes a solid band for good support.
You will want to add te wrap after the tillering is done and final sanding but before adding the finish.
