Light-shade riser wood...

I'm having a bow made and am looking for ideas on what "lighter-shade" wood would be suitable for a 1-piece riser of a 50# bow. I'm thinking of having walnut veneers and want some contrast. I really want to select a good, stong riser wood to go with it. How is myrtle? hickory? maple? ...any other ideas as well would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Have never used myrtle but hickory or maple will give you lots of contrast and make a strong riser.

Any of the hard maples would work fine, I would prefer zebra wood.

Curly maple is a good choice and plenty strong enough. It's been used for hundreds of years as stock material for muzzleloaders and stands up to the recoil, so plenty strong enough for a riser.

Yep.. have been using maple as my main wood for risers...

birdseye, curly, fiddleback and just maple.. all work well... the fiddleback is almost white.. really cool.. but all of them are really light.

Ash would work, but it is softer than maple.

whats on the limbs kenny,
do you have anything with a similar swirled type pattern, but un a nice dark wood.
can a black maple give you that type of a pattern?

I've never had any black maple,got any pics?

I don't have anything like that right now,but kiln guy says he has some stuff saved back for me!Goin Sat. to see what he has!
