Man, those drying cracks would have scared me. But don't seem to scare you guys.

Nice job Jawge!

I'm right at the beginning stages of tillering as we speak, it's a bend in the handle bow from a stave that had drying cracks that I finally got below of. Then there wasn't enough meat for a handle, so I decided to make a continuous bend Indian style flat bow out of it. I've wanted to make one of these since I started building bows from Osage and this "ugly" beautiful stave was a perfect candidate for that.

Bigcountry- Most times those drying cracks aren't all that deep, but in some cases they are and depending on what I see as I take off belly wood they may not affect the bow or they might be the deal breaker? Just never know till you invest some work in it to find out. It may end up kindling for the wood stove, or it may end up like George's bow or the one I'm working on.

The belly cracks didn't scare me on this one, but some of the knots I'm working around do. I'll hold my breath when I put the long string on it here in about 30min.

Nice lookin bow. How much propellor twist can be tolerated? Ive heard up to 45 degrees.

Thanks, osagetree. big, I do most of the building in the winter. This one took 11 hours from stave to full draw. semo, this one actually does bend in the handle and the fades. But I didn't want to mention that in the buildalong. That design takes care to tiller, 40 degrees is about my limit. This one is not that bad, oke. How much do you have? Jawge

Kids and grandkids? LOL, happened to me too.. 11 grandkids and 1 great grandson here, and I love it. I see you started out with a long string in string grooves, atta boy..

Jawge, Ive made a couple with around 30 degrees of twist. I just kinda wanted to know your opinion on it.

Jawge, I'm getting ready to post some pics in Kelly's build along for him to see. We were talking about this ugly stave I had and he asked me to post some pics in his build along, so I'm headed there now. They should be up in about 10min.

I actually think it's turning out rather well.
I've got all the flex I need and I just have one hard spot to straighten out and I think I will call that good? Then I'll finish it up.

Holy cow. 11 hours? Seems to take me 3 months on average.

I once made a bow over a weekend. That was my first one. I had complete guidance the whole time. But I wouldn't do it again. Especially the tillering and finessing. I just seem to have to be in the mood to tiller. I can only do it for about 30-60min at a time. After that I get aggitated and take off too much here and there.
