I have a 10" craftsman benchtop saw,it takes a 56 7/8 blade that is 1/8" Has anyone ever tried to go to a 1/4" or 3/8" blade on one of these? I have broke 4 blades in the last two months, adjusted time and again and im about done with this thing, budget wont allow a new saw just yet. Thanks             Rick

AKmud

I have a similar saw and the range is 1/8-1/2" I think.  You will be fine, just make sure you take the time to set it up properly when you change blade widths.

All band saws can take different width blades.  I would agree with Akmud on the 10".. probably 1/2" would be the widest.  I have the Craftsman 12".  I use a 1/4" for any fine cuts with curves and use a 3/8" blade for ripping wood.  Works great for me.

And yes, I have broken many a 1/8" blade.. very thin and made for only up to like 1" or so deep wood.  They are for scrolling only.

I use to use one of those little saws, and used 3/8" 6TPI blades out of mine.

Keep an eye on Craigslist.  I've found a few bargins.

That 1/8" band is for making intarsia, or puzzles.  Crafts with a lot of bends and turns that can be laid flat.

Woodcrafter has your blades listed up to 3/8".

I have a 9" and I use a 3/8" 6 tpi for ripping and a 1/4" for any tight bends.  Go with the 3/8".

Another thing, adjust your guides for the thickness you are working with and don't overtighten the blade.
