Ranger3 that is a beauty. I know *********** ***** will is going to hit the floor when that arrives. I got you down as completing your bow, just drop me a PM when you ship it.
If everyone does that I can keep track of who has and has not sent and received their bows. I hope it will help us keep on top of an unforeseeable  issues.
Great Job 1 down and 83 to go.

Sweet looking bow Ranger, top notch quality for sure! I love that backing and it adds a real unique touch.

I got my blank roughed out this morning, and ready to start working it down. I pulled one of my el primo Osage staves out of the rafters for this bow build. I'd say I'm within 2-3 days work from being able to shoot it, give or take a week or so.   :D
The poundage is a little heavy yet, I'm guessing around 150# or so?
If I was making this bow for Raging Waters or Biggie, I could just throw a 1/4" steel cable on it for a string and make up some rebar for arrow shafts and call it good to go.

This blank will make my recipient a real nice longbow I'm sure, as long as I do my part.

Ranger that is a sweet looking bow.  Did you get the cherry bark from your hunter/gatherer skills or purchase it and what is the length of the bow?  It looks shorter and I love the curve in the tips!  You'll have the winner of that bow slinging sticks before no time!

Thanks again everyone, I bought the bark from Raptor archery and the bow is 63" over all. If you all think this one is nice stick around the really nice ones is yet to be built.

i was excited to see that bow as well ranger. i thought maybe you drew me , then someone had to point out the drawlength....

maybe ill get a chance to get to the lumber yard this weekend and puttz around. the locust i have is not black locust (or my ultraviolet light isnt ultraviolet) , cause it didnt glow when i hit it. it had thorns like mad , and seemed to match up with black locust , so i dont know. the rings are tissue paper thin though , and i just get frustrated when i mess with it.

im thinking jatoba backed cherry... maybe hickory backed jatoba... i dont know... maybe ill use the mystery log i have , and hickory back it...

ain't got no gas in it...mmmhmmm...

Hova, does your locust have multi-pointed thorns on the trunk or small roselike thorns on the small branches.

sounds like it kerry.

nice looking stave semo. Aint mo ark awesome?

cool looking bow ranger. I like that cherry backing. It's a unique touch.

I worked about 18 hours in the shop chasing rings and rasping out bow blanks. It wasn't all hard work though. I did take a few breaks to heat up and straighten a few as I went. Two very productive days later I still have to pick a blank for the swap I'm happy, but exausted!

it had thorns all over the trunk and branches. upwards of 2" long. i dont recall them being multi pointed , but i was more worried about knocking all of them off....

I think he meant that it is honey locust. Honey Locust is covered with the nasties. My farm is full of the stuff.

Here are a few pics from today. First one is my choices for the swap. Decisions, decisions.

The next are the one I picked.

This blank has some naturel deflex soooo... I'm going to have to put her on the super caul. :-) I really like this one, but it takes quite a few sessions with the heat gun to get it right.  I'm thinking that its going to take five. Thats my guess, but for now, its still green so into the steam tube it went for a few hours today and then it is off to the hot box after it stabilizes in about a week.
