hi, i am going to attend a rick welch shooting clinic in the next few months, and i really want to get one of his longbows, however his wait list is a year long- so it will be a while in coming-as i will only order at the clinic.

so i really would like to build my own, 50# @28" take down longbow, cut 1/8" past center- i want to try and get as close to his bow dimensionally, that i can, so that i really can concentrate on the techniques and form that he teaches- so that when the bow comes it will not be too much of a variance.
any thoughts, ideas and pointers are appreciated.

i love building and shooting my selfbows, but am putting this directive all to school fees.
thanks

your above statement might be the issue, I would say you could build similar looking bows but they would still have individual variable characteristics.  :coffee:

Hopefully someone with more insight will chime in shortly, this is still the best site around.

thanks mike,
geuss i phrased that wrong, just trying to get a bow as close as possible, so that it rather helps me, than works against me, for when i eventually get one of his bows. i would still like to really hunt with my selfbows, but maybe for some technique "tuning" practice, and maybe some 3D shoots might be nice to shoot a bow that is a little more forgiving, and hence a tad more consistantly accurate to shoot.
i know he cuts his shelves 1/8 past center, and he has a strip of carbon in the center of the stack somewhere to help things along a bit.
any ideas or pointers are welcomed- no matter how critical.
thanks

Have you considered a used bow, might take a while but you might find just the bow you are looking for.
