Is 1 1/4" wide enough for an unbacked 70" bow about 60# at 30"?

Pat B

Wider would be better but if you keep a rectangular cross section(flat belly) you should be fine. Take it slow and keep it dry. Hickory likes 6% m/c.

Recurve25,  What part of Ky are you in?  I am in Williamsburg.
I am working on my 3rd hickory bow.   My first one was 65 in long and 1.5 in wide.  ON the second I went to 1 7/8 wide for the same length.  Got a lot more wieght out of the second.  On the third one I am shooting for about 1 7/8 again but will be about 68 long.
Blessed be the Lord my strength; which teacheth my hands to war and my fingers to fight.

Hello briarjumper12, I live in Metcalfe County.

The reason I asked about the 1 1/4" width is because I ordered two hickory bow cores and one of them was warped. After cutting out the bows profile thats all I was left with. But the first one was fine and I ended up with a very smooth, quiet bow. It is 66" long 1.5" wide and 50# @ 28".

Will, you should go to the Tenn Classic. It is actually off Ashley Rd in Chapmansboro but Pappy lives in Clarksville. Lots of bow building going on and lots of good bowyers helping out. Usually around the first of May.
