Bow lube.

Hey all when bending a bow with dry heat on a propane grill by hand what do you think is the best to put on the tip of the bow being bend. I heard bacon grease but im out of bacon right now so what other household items could I put on it?

what do you think about bees wax? btw the grease or whatever is ment to keep the moisture in the wood

I use crisco cooking oil or veg oil..I think about any oil will work.

seriously , i thought about using a grill on my red oak board , but thought it would be too much...

guess ill have to use the warming rack...

My grill was broke so I used steam and found it very easy to bend a severe recurve into even osage.

what did you use , just a big turkey pot?

no I just got a medium sized pot of water and placed the bow ontop of it and put some foil over the pot and bow to keep the steam in it. Im in Martins Ferry Ohio

I use dry heat and olive oil.  It smells as nice as it works.

I've read that Crisco, lard, and olive oil work well but I've always wondered how those affect the finish later.  Any thoughts?
