My new selfbow

This is my 3rd bow, the first was a hickory bow for my son the second bow didnt make it to final tiller after i added a new backing because the first time through it came out at only 20#. This hickory selfbow is 71" KTK, 40# @ 28". It origionaly                was going be a war bow  but revealed itself as a normal Longbow... although what makes a war bow a war bow anyway? (please enlighten me)

Congratulations on making a shooter that looks good too.  If you carried it into war I'd say it was a warbow but whether it could pierce armor at only 40# is another matter.

Good lookin bow, much better than my 3rd, I broke about 6 before getting a shooter. I think its bending a little too much on the outer 3rd though. Next bow try to get it to start bending about 6 to 8 inches out from the handle on the tillering stick and bend evenly to a stiff 6inch tip. You will get another 10lbs or more out of a similiar stave. Or try for a full half circle, bend through the handle profile, like the old english warbows. I've gotten 75 lbs out of 1.25" round of hickory with that style. Good Luck

thank to all for the positive comments. limbcracker, thanks for the advice i have another chunk of hickory from the same board. I am working on a boo backed hickory right now getting the post together tonight.

Looks great. Congratulations! For the next one...the inner limb need to bend more. Most of the bend is happening the last 18 inches. Jawge
