Refinish Question

I have a Massey Longhorn made in 2001 that the finish is peeling off of.  I don't want to strip it completely because I want to keep the name and serial number original.

That being said, I was going to sand the rest of the bow with some 320 and refinish with a spar poly.

My question is will I have any reaction with Massey's finish and the poly?

I would also like to know any other options or ideas you guys might have.
