tru-oil & painting

Hello,   I just somewhat finished a OBB with deerhide backing. And i have applied a couple coats of tru-oil,  but now i decided  to paint an idian design on it.  So do i need need to sand the hide down or can i just paint on the tru-oil finish.

Craft paint should go over the Tru-Oil but you should buff the finish with 0000steel wool first. Do a test first to be sure the paint and finish are compatible.
 You say you used deer hide. Is it rawhide or tanned deer hide?

First off thanks pat. you  always give a replie;  and no the deer hide was tanned, which i guess is a no-no.  since the replie i have sanded it and put a indian pattern on the deer hide.

P.S. i scored big today on some osage,  looks like i'll be busy for a yr.  So far split about 20 possible staves and billets. So i might get 3 or 4 good ones.

any pics of the finished bow? great find with the osage, ive been searching myself and no luck yet but i got till winter when id rather cut so its all good.lol

Nice score. Now challenge yourself!  Take advantage of all 20 staves and make a bow from each piece. You will learn more about wood bow building from that pile of osage than all the books written on the subject. Don't worry about draw weight or how purty it may or may not be. Build functional, well tillered bows.
 It don't take much osage to make a good hunting weight bow either!

My son has my camera at his moms but ill post some soon.  And the logs are really producing alot of possible stave. I've spentt about 10 hours on them .  splitting and sealing.
