1) Buy a helmet...
2) Buy a 48" B50 string...
3) Put string on bow...
4) Put on helmet...
5) Draw bow...
6) Take off helmet...
7) Pick up splintered pieces...
8) Buy a longer bow.

 :D

Seriously, you're asking for disaster/concussion/bruised nuts shooting a bow that short, with a draw that long.

I just wish that someone had forewarned me to buy the helmet.

I was going to say 49" using the amo standard of 3" under the N to N length.

I draw 30" and I have drawn a Kodiak Magnum one time.  I stopped at about 29" when I heard/felt funny crackling sounds!!!!  Seems to me it was shorter than 52".

48" string, Dacron only. Mine like about 8" brace height. Don't know about that 31" though- sounds like trouble. If nothing else it will stack like crazy much past 29".

That KMagnum is pre-AMO standards (which started in Feb '68 if anyone is interested)  Any pics (or a description)?  It sounds like it was made before 1965.

The string should be anywhere from 48" to 49" when measured under tension.  The actual length of the old Bears can vary quite a bit, even within the same year, though I've found that to be more of a problem with the 50's not the 60's Bears.

Your best bet is to get a 48" dacron string; you can always twist it shourter.  You could also brace the bow with whatever long string you have on hand... use the loop and a bowyer's knot.  Then measure the string length while it's on the bow and order the correct string.
