I'm going elk hunting this year and need to make a new bow.  ;)
Need it short enough to shoot in a pop-up and/or tree stand and comfortable enough to handle. (~55-60lbs with minimal shock.)
I was thinking about a static bbo or a recurved gbo about 56" long.
Anybody have any helpful hints, creative ideas, or recommendations? Something to get my creative juices going and not going too far out of whack.

bbo is pretty popular,so is bamboo backed bamboo. not sure which would deliver more energy downrange for more punch, but full bamboo is supposed to be pretty smooth and near no handshock.im surew either one would be able to get 55-60# pretty easily.you could build a sinewed osage too, anything shorter than 60 benefits alot from the recurve it adds and the strength.

Never believe that you are worthless .... you can always be used as a bad example!

Scrap the popup and tree stand.  At least in my experiance with elk you gotta move with the wind and close distances imho

Yes, that's what I meant. Glass backed osage. The issue for the the pop up and tree stand comes from a friend whose taking me. We're going in Arizona early part of the season. It's hot and the watering holes are where he hunts. Never hunted elk. Just taking his advice.

Walkabout, tell me more about the all boo...

walkabout

well ive seen them for reasonable prices in glue up kits here and there, basically a bamboo core backed with bamboo, rumored to be pretty fast and hand shock is null because of the overall light mass of the bow from what i gather. saw a few pics here awhile back of someones they built with a riser insert too that was pretty sharp. heres a post about all boo bows  http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=125;t=002805#000000  if you search the terms"all bamboo bow" youll find a few others. some people say boo is hard to work and others have great success, so its really a matter of finding someone who can tell you alot about it and what can go wrong.
