Bona, I can only pull to 26" and the bow I made is for 28". I tillered it out to 29" and shot it at my 26". That's all we can do. Osagetree(Joe Weed) is left handed but I can't shoot that way so I shot it right handed.
I usually leave a newly completed bow strung for 2 to 6 hours to "sweat" it, basically controlled stressing.

Bona,

Pg 31 of The Bent Stick...

The New bow.

"You can make a bow that will keep all it's weight it has when new. This can be done as soon as you are satisfied the limbs are well tillered and bending evenly. You simply put the bow on the tillering tree and leave it for 30, 40 or 60 minutes. It is not necessary to pull the bow as far as it can go."

It does go on to say that any bow will still take some string follow after being shot under normal use and settle in without loosing weight when given this treatment.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input guys. I remember reading about letting them sit strung for several hours and I've done that a few times. I don't remember reading about leaving it on the tiller tree for a while.

John, I work this weekend so I don't know if I can bring it down. I would love to have your opinion thought. I'll see what I can do.

I'm here all weekend.  Got some crawlspace flooding to take care of though.  Might be under the house  :)   5" of rain in 3 hours will do that to you I guess  :(

Alright guys! My trade bow is finished. I learned alot along the way. I wasn't sure about getting in on the trade because of my lack of experience building bows. I've snapped two osage attempts and knew that if I was building it for someone else then I would be forced to slow down. It worked! Anyways...she's kind of plain jane compared to some others on here but i'm proud of my first successful bow besides one other red oak board bow.

The creek I hunt on is Sand Creek, which is where I cut the tree.

Covered up the name to keep everyone honest!

I hope to get her shipped out early next week.

It is not the original one that I started on. Nothing wrong with the other one, I started tillering this one instead by accident and was so close to having it done when I realized that I just went with it.

It is 58" ntn. 64# at 28". It has about an inch of set on the upper limb and one and a quarter inch set on the lower limb. (Dean Torges says a little bit of set makes them shoot sweeter.)

I shot her a few times yesterday but she needs braced a little higher cause I was getting some wrist slap. It's either that or my form is not so good on a bow that weight.

It has elk antler tip overlays and two layers of black walnut in the handle. The string is made but needs served and silencers added.

Next stain the boo, seal and wrap the handle.

Sure does look good Bona!

Guys we need to slow down a bit, LOL! The sign up for next year will be posted in Jan. If we get everybody to go again plus the guys that have posted wanting in the next one we'll have over 60 bows getting swapped.

Pretty awsome. That means it would take at least 60 or so years to obtain a bow from everyone if you could that luck in the draw.    :bigsmyl:
