Is anyone making all bamboo (with or without glass) longbows? I have been wanting to try one just to satisfy my mind.

I can't afford to buy one and I wouldn't even if I could, until I shot one. I just need to know...lol

This post might be in the wrong place so if it is just move it to the appropriate place.

Thanks in advance!

God bless,Mudd

David Miller makes an all bamboo longbow in the true Hill/Shultz style.  I personally haven't shot one or even seen one yet, but from what I've seen on the various on-line forms, folk who own them love them.  They sure are classy looking.  Here's his web site.

An all boo bow has interested me for a while. There have been a few articles in past PA magazine about them.
One trick is to temper the belly boo(if you are using the outside like on the back) to improve the compression strength. The tension is plenty strong enough and tempering it would make it too brittle and more prone to crack as a backing.

I have made Hill style longbows with bamboo limbs many times before. It is a great limb "grass". Very smooth on the pull and virtually no hand shock. The action time is also very fast. You wont go wrong with natures fiberglass. If you need some get it from Kenny. He does a great job cutting it and gets it to you quick.

Thanks,
Joshua

Mudd, I have handled and shot David Miller's all bamboo bows and they are something to behold for sure. There is a art to build them like Howard and John Schulz did for sure. You have to pick out the right bamboo for positioning in the limbs, temper it correctly and many other secret facets. Once you see what goes into building one correctly you appreciate them all that much more and the best thing is the way they shoot when built correctly. Flint
