Muirapiranga - or Bloodwood - will be the main wood in the limbs of my custom recurve. As far as I've read, it has, and I quote: "High bending and crushing strength, medium stiffness and resistance to shock."

Does anyone else own bows with bloodwood? I'd like to know about it  :readit:

It makes a good Bamboo backed bow wood, I have only made one with it, but I was pleased.

Got bamboo in the core, actually. Just hoping the bloodwood does good in tension, aswell as compression.

Bloodwood, and Osage are both in the Mulberry family,  It  will be a good bow wood.  Really won't matter much if the bow is laminated with fiberglass.

I'm making a high poundage longbow bow out of bamboo, bloodwood and ipe. So far so good...

Is bloodwood an exotic?

I'm with Dano, only made one bamboo backed bloodwood bow, but was very pleased with it. It really slings an arra. And yes it does look great.

Seems that bloodwood makes a great belly, but does anyone know how it will do as backing?

I would suspect all wood could cause harm, just a matter of time.

Not that this is totally relevant...but Ive done nock overlays with bloodwood and they came out great. No problems yet with TS-1 string with padded loops.
Dont hesitate, ventilate

TheFatboy

Nocks are also under pressure, and if they can take it... that's good news   :notworthy:

Seen some bloodwood backed with hickory, made by John McCullough. Really sweet bows.

TheFatboy

Yeah, the wood looks amazing. As for the visuals, my bow is going to look very sweet. Black ebony riser, bloodwood back and belly, bamboo core and ebony or ziricote siyahs   :saywhat:
