draw weight check?

i used a bathroom scale and a jig with a bow with a 28"draw mark to check the draw weight if a self bow that a freind is letting me shoot for a while is this an accurate method to check draw weight

I've never heard of that method.  I'm going to come right out and say no, I can't see how it could be accurate at all.

You would definetly have to zero the scale with the the jig and bow on it.

i did zero the scale with the jig and the bow on the scale. the reason i ask this is, i saw a pic of jim hamm do this in the tbb and i really was curious if this was a reliable way to check the draw weight of the bow. im definately interested in more opinions, whether they are positive or negative

Here's what I did.  I hung the bow with a stout rope from my basement rafters, used an "S" hook to hold an ammo box full of lead ingots with approx. the weight of the bow I'm testing and suspend it from the string.  I increase or decreased ingots until I got to 28" draw and weighed the box on a bathroom scale.  I've found it's pretty accurate when compared to the pull type scales sold by 3 Rivers.

Yes you can use a bath scale to check weight. Every scale is off a little from others. I use a tillering board & bath scale  and then took it to a shop to double check and it was 2#'s off. Then checked it on another scale ( bow scale ) and it was 1# off.  You can test on others scale and You might be off a few lbs, but will be close to being right on.

In my experience, the bathroom scale with a tillering stick works as good or better then the pull down spring scales; It's just less convenient.

It is as accurate as the scale is.

My scale is within a couple tenths with the post office.

Reddogge, you should have used your gold ingots for more accuracy!

I agree with Pat, if the bath scale is accurate then your #'s should be correct. All scales are not the same, so it depends on how "GOOD" your scale is!

well if my guess is correct the bow i checked pulls 70#@28"draw theere is a short story and pics in powow about the bow
