White Ash

I have a dry white ash stave with the bark on, I will be starting on. How wide of a stave do you need (this one is 4") to make a nice bow and what dimensions?

3/4" to 2" would be a good width. I don't have good luck with ash. Many others do! I would overbuild it to begin with then reduce the width if appropriate later in the tillering process. Also consider the bow's length, draw length and draw weight before you cut out your back profile.

The last ash bow I made was a 66in long flatbow that was 2in wide for the majority of the working limb and it turned out well.  I like working with ash.

I just finished an 69" Ash flatbow, I made a 4 inch handle, 3 inch fades on both sides of the handle then kept it nearly 2" wide for 14 inches, then tapered to thin tips... It came out to be a pretty slow bow though......i am assuming due to incorrect MC though..

I have a 20" diameter 25 ft ash trunk that i need to get some more staves out of...it is laying over off the ground now...hopefully I can try to cut it up this weekend!...I assume it is white ash.
