Backing question...

Have any of you tried using a veneer like cabinet makers use for backing bows?  I was thinking of getting a sheet of an exotic veneer to use.  The supplier I spoke with said they are really thin and paper backed, sold in 4'x8' sheets.  Would the paper backing be a problem?

Ok i have some of this stuff actually and had never thought about using it as a backing, i would love to hear what some experianced people have to say about it....

I have heard of using hickory veneer as backing but have not tried it. Other veneers would depend on the wood but also the grain configuration.

I think I'll hit up my cabinet maker friend and see if I can con him out of a piece to try on that birch bow I'm working on....

yes hickory veneer does work quite well....i use 1/8
thickness to 1/16th....i also use Bow Grip 100 but
with proper cleaning u can use TBII....get an ace
bandage and wrap the bow as tight as u can let set
till dry....ace bandage holds and also lets air in
to cure the glue....
