I was messin around in the shop and needed some thicker material for a medium sized axe. So I tried this.

I really like RR spikes for their material. Not for blades but for nice clean stock. I needed something about 1 1/4 square and 5 inches for this axe. Looking back I would have flattened it a little making it about 1 X 1 3/4 and used the material to better advantage. It would have enabled me to make this head in more of an Axe shape instead of looking like a hawk. The edge is a little over 3 inches and it is gonna be a good one.

If you look close along the edge, you can see the where the bit is welded.

Nice, Lin.

Thanks. Yes, Matt, if you mean the bit. It's 5160.

Classic...I love everything you post.  This post reminds me of my grandad, as he always had a sharp hatchet hanging by the fireplace and a Louis L'amour book next to his reading chair.  :)
