Which leather?

Rusty Snuffers

What should I look for when buying leather to make a sheath?  I'm planning on a horizontal belt sheath that'll hold the knife with no strap, if possible.  What would be the easiest and securest leather to use?

I use anywhere from 7oz to 9oz vegetable tanned tooling leather.
'cuz deer huntin' ain't catch & release!
