Ragnarok Forge (Clay) recently posted a thread with pictures from the trip I took to his place.  I had a great time learning about forging and even got to come away with a knife.  Work kept me busy this week, but I managed to finish up the knife he sent me home with.  I rounded the front edge of the handle and put a Cocobolo button on the end.  I couldn't find a decorative pin for the end that I liked so I settled on a small piece of steel rod.  It's a long ways from what you guys make, but it was a lot of fun and I can't wait to make some more.  Thanks again, Clay-couldn't have done it without you    .

Yeah, I got that idea from Clay, too.  He had some Colonial era knives he had done and finished them off with wood and a decorative headed nail.  The wood seemed to give a nice end instead of the bare cutoff.

I like how you put the finishing touches on the knife.  You did a great job on your first knife.  Starting and getting to 95% finish on a knife in one day is a great start to your bladesmithing.  I look forward to seeing more knives in your future.

I just got access to a bunch of wood mill band saw blades that are 1/16 and 1/8 inch think.  They will make good neck and sheath size knives. When I get the material in hand I will cut up a bunch of rectangular pieces and send them your way for stock material.  I will be getting the soft brick sent your way this week.  I still have not located that other string I made for your bow.  I think the cat drug it off somewhere.

Clay, thanks for your generosity.  I'm hoping to send some stuff for you this week, as well.  Actually, half of it's for Blue-love that dog.  As for the string, I think it might be worth getting one of those paranormal experts over there-you could have some sort of black hole hiding under your couch....

Nice knife. Have you made broad heads ? I made one out of 1"steel pallet banding it seems to be ok have not shot it yet just wanted some input.

I did a little digging around the torch you want to buy for the mini forge is a Bernzomatic BZ 8250 torch that burns propylene.  The torch should run around $70.  Buy the fat boy bottles for it.

No, only thing I've made is the knife.  Would be pretty cool to make some broadheads to go hunting with, though.

Thanks for the info on the torch-I'll take a look around and see what I can't find.  Does propylene burn differently than propane or that Mapp (sp?) gas you were telling me about?  Oh, and the "rosebud" type of tip, right?  Thanks for the help

The torch number I gave you should have the rosebud tip on it.  Propylene is the replacement for the MAPP gas.  It runs at a lower pressure, yet burns a bit hotter than MAPP.
