Here's another hunter I'll be dragging along to Atlanta:

When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.
Chief Joseph

'cuz deer huntin' ain't catch & release!

Dan White

That is very nice, is the guard stainless?

Dan

kbaknife

Yes, Dan. 416 stainless.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

OconeeDan

Karl, that is plain sexy.
OK, I'll ask, what's the wood in the handle?

kbaknife

Sorry, Dan, I guess I could have written in some specs - eh?
That's African Blackwood.
The plain, dark black stuff is easy to get, but it's rather boring if you ask me.
This is "instrument grade", which I get from a lady whose uncle actually lives in Africa and searches out the choice material from already dead trees on the ground in the jungle.
As such, it's not only of the highest quality, but no living trees were killed to acquire it.
(I even have some Blackwood burl! un-obtainium.)
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Another stunner bud!

I've got to ask, and please don't take this as a criticism you know I love all your work, but why do you leave the profile of the handle ever so sightly larger than the profile of the guard? Would it not be more elegant to blend the two to the exact same size?

I guess elegance is in the eye of the beholder - eh?
I know for a fact, that no matter how far we go into the future, I NEVER - EVER - need be concerned about the handle material shrinking below the line of the hardware.
I feel it also adds another dimension to the overall character of the knife, and shows a bit of control of the materials.
In other words, it's easy to sand things flush, but a lot of attention is necessary to keep things even all the way around in this manner.

You gonna make it to Atlanta this year, Rob????

Thanks for that Karl, that was pretty much the answer I'd imagined. Please don't think that I think your knives aren't elegant, I really do!

I'm hoping to get to Blade for at least one day. In your opinion, which is the best day to come down?

Heck, I'm driving right by you - I'll stop by and pick you up!
Rob, just jump over on 24 to Chattanooga and come down 75.
Make sure you drive on the right side of the road.
