i know how to aneal brass, copper and metals like that, but how would you aneal stainless to make it easier to work down for guards and such.
have i not commanded you? be strong and of good courage;be not afraid or discouraged:for the Lord your God is with you where ever you go. joshua 1:9

I have a friend who uses stainless for guards. He just purchases stock from a knife supply.

Do you know what type of stainless it is ?with alot of steels it would be to heat to non-magnetic and bury it in ash(or something)to prevent it from cooling too quickly. The problem is there are alot af specialty steels out there, some are trickier than others.
Measure twice, cut once, then beat it to fit

I would think that typically if he purchased it from a knife supplier it would be annealed already for ease of working...
