This is a knife I made for a birthday present. Pre-made blade and did the rest myself. 440C stainless guthook. 3.5" blade and 7.5" OAL. Bocote scales with red liners and mosaic pins. Sheath is 7-8oz leather.

'cuz deer huntin' ain't catch & release!

Cool looking knife and the handle is very nice.  But I could never get into gut hooks possibly cause I do a lot of abdominal surgery on pets weekly  :)   They just seem to get in the way and hang up for me.

I'm curious---how many guys/gals acutally use gut hooks to open the abdomin?  Thanks...Doc

I use them on occasion. I only use them to "unzip" the skin. Never have actually used them for opening the gut. They do good for me as long as the hook is sharp. If not then they tend to hang up quite a bit. I usually switch to a different knife for the actual gutting. I just have lots of knives and like to give each one a chance! LOL!   :D

I always use a guthook on deer when field dressing. I use it when skinning also to go up the insides of the legs.
If it's in your way, move it.
