I'm working on my third knife, simple skinner with mahogany handle, and I'd like to inlay at least one set of 30/30 cartridges as I've seen some people do here. For those that have tried it, do you use regular pins and inlay the cartridges over them, or do you use the cartridges as actual pins, connecting the two ends somehow. Hopefully this question makes sense and I'd appreciate any info
Thanks

I havent posted here on this, but I just usually drill the handle material and epoxy them in before finishing. I take a dremel tool, and with a cutting blade cris cross the back of the cartridge head that I have cut off in a grid pattern so that gives the epoxy something to bite into, make a mechanical lock, and clean them first with acetone to remove any oil, etc. for better bonding, never had any come loose. Hope this helps.

UMLarcher,
I hope I'm not buttin in, bcause I have never used a cartridge case for a pin.

If I were to though, I would cut off the base of the cartrige (spent round, of course), knock out the primer and use the base as a washer, inletting it into the handle and putting the new pin where the primer was. This way the pin actually can be a mechanical bond to help hold the sides to each other.

Just a thought. Lin
