Help, I want to make a horizontal knife sheath UPDATED

Can anyone point me to a good way to make a horizontal knife sheath.  What do you do for belt loops and security against loss.  I am just tired of my knives sticking me in the lowest rib when I squat.


Thanks for any advice.

Well here is the sheath I made.  I like this style because you can use it on your belt or lash it to you leg.  The width makes nice in a cargo pocket.
