Hello,

I have just epoxied the scales on my 6th knife tonight. I have made 3 with scales and 1 antler and 2 simular to the ones catfishon makes with the epoxy in blades.

I must say that catfishon is very very talented! His knives look awsome. The 2 I made that way had crooked blades. That design is harder than the through handle style with scales!! I never could figure out how to get a straight blade.

Back to the subject: what is a hollow grind and a flat grind? Also what are the other types of grinds? How do yall grind them? I have used a drum sander on a drill press,a file and a grinding wheel in the same drill press. They were ok but not as good as everyone else's.

What techniques are yall using?

I will post pictures soon.

Tommy, a flat grind is when you hold the blade to a flat platen when grinding, which makes the blade flat on the sides.
A hollow grind is when you grind the sides of the blade with a grinder or belt over a round wheel, it leaves a "hollowed out" profile on the sides of the blade.
They each have their strongpoints.

Thanks Elk Ninja!

That helps alot, looks like I have been puting a scandi bevel on my knives and didnt even know it.

Do any of yall have any special jigs made up for your belt sanders or grinders to make the bevel perfect? If you do, I would love to see a picture or drawing

Thanks

oops - somebody beat me to it.
I could have just deleted it, but then I'd look really stupid.
Wait - this looks stupid, too......
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.
