montana whitetail hunt

Here is a little taste of some of my whitetail outings over the last couple weeks.

I recieved a call from a huntin' buddy of mine in another part of the state that said he wanted to come over and hunt wht-tails but he only had a couple days.

This worked out fine because I couldn't get much time off myself and my next 2 days off were weds and thurs.

Here is a picture of a river we're hunting here in montana.
   

I've hunted this place for many years now so when I scout it's not to find a place to hunt, it's to find the bigger bucks and some of there feeding patterns.

I've been wanting to get this thread started for over a week but time is pretty short so I'll come back this evening but to wet your whissle a little bit.

Oh, the pain....whitetails in a Montana river bottom....I'm in utter agony here!  :p

How wide are these Montana river bottoms typicaly ?? I've drove threw some of the west and what I saw was acres of fields and a small strip of woods

the place we are hunting is hard to sit a morning stand because the deer are bedding in the trees next to where they feed.

so I told my buddy that there is a little patch of trees on the north end of the place that I call the cabbage patch (because its right next to a old garden plot) and with the wind we have we'll do a little push.  

Next time I see my buddy he's got a big smile on his face and is missing a arrow.  

We had a video camera on a tripod with us but in the heat of the action old eddy forgot to turn the camera on        

after a 25yrd blood trail a blind man could follow we found this:


 

I'll be honest with ya, I'm a man of few words and a story teller I'm not but there is more to this story and I might not be back for a little while.

well I guess I'm going to end this thread, I wish I had alot of pictures but our dig camera broke recently so I'm without one myself.

The two days hunting with Ed was good time and made some great memories.    

On with the hunt,
It's a evening stand in an area that I have hunted before, pretty uneventfull as far as buck traffic in the morning for both of us but our plan for the evening was for me to enter the woods first around 3:45 and Pat would go to his stand around 4:30am.  As he heads in the woods its not uncommen to bump some deer with the a northwest wind.

4:40 or so comes and sure enough something is  shuffleing it's way my direction

had to take a little break to put out a fire.

the badger pic is one I had taken earlier this year but none the less Mr Badger came strolling by and not to much later I hear a little more rustleing of the leaves

Sure enough it's a decent buck, without much thought my bow comes up and the arrow looks good.

I could see the deer for 40yrds or so after the shot. After some time I get down to find my arrow.



Everything seemed so wright when I made the shot but now I find the arrow and I start to second guess what I thought was so good.
