Curtis Kellar called me today. Seems he was off in the Hill country of Texas checking out a goat hunting ranch with Mark Horne.

From the sound of it, it's a really cool ranch with totally different geography than around Curtis home.
Lot's of rocks and steep hills... well, they do call it the hill country.  :D

So I won't spoil it for CK, but be warned there is gonna be a tale of critter gettin when he gets home tomorrow.

Man, I love the hill country. I just got back a week ago, and I'm headed back down there in two weeks. We've got three ranchs that we're hunting on, and the exotics are unreal. If you think goat is good, you guys need to try axis buck. Black buck is so so, but axis deer, man oh man.
The hill country is almost like the area around here. And the exotics offer some unreal, tough hunting. Them dang little black bucks are worse wired then a whitetail deer. Nothing but a bunch of springs that come unglued at the slightest sound. And if you like sheep, look into the Taxas Dall. I think thats the prettiest sheep in Texas. I'm telling you guys, Texas is the place to hunt.

Someone needs to get that guy a laptop with wireless internet. It'd keep us from going nuts waiting for another story.

Wow is all I can say about the weekend! I went out to west Texas scouting a new ranch to run some Traditional Bowhunting on. I'd heard tales of five species of goats running wild and unfenced. The tales were true and I had Mark Horne, his nephew Travis and my wife along to see it as well. Everyone had shot opportunities in steep, rugged terrain. Here's a tidbit to get your motor running. I'll tell of the hunt later. Tonight I need to rest my ankles and feet. CK

Man, looks like where I hunt in San Saba County. But we don't have any wild goats, on our lease.
It's great hunting in the Hill Country!

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your wife told you to, to begin with.

CK, sign me up for a goat hunt between the TS07 and the Bowyers Journal hunt. Or the hog lease school bus, or fish chasin', heck, just sign me up. That hill country sure is pretty.
