Relocating to Wyoming...possibly

hey all...there is a good chance I will be relocating to Wyoming...I can go anywhere in the state...want to be near good hunting area's and know nothing about it or the west...I know it'll be culture shock since i am used to shooting 2 - 5 deer a year , turkey, squirrel, bear and waterfowling...tell me about Wyoming and in your opinion good areas to live and hunt. I just missed an opportunity in Gillette, WY.

I hunt with a longbow, have a rifle, but really don't use a gun much, save the shotgun for waterfowling and turkeys.

Any help and thoughts would be greatly apprecaited.

Hey Mark that sounds great, I have only been to Wyoming 3 or 4 times so I am not an expert at all, but we hunt north and west of Douglas Wyoming and we see all sorts of game, mule deer, whitetail deer, black bear, elk, mountian lions, turkey and yotte's. I know the people in Douglas are top notch people!

Anoited..thanks, that's great info. I have always dreamed of going westward and I guess now really appreciate what I have now here in MI...a couple years ago i got into waterfowling pretty big out near point moille by the Detroit River. I have by choice on eatten wild game since 1989..gave up hunting for a while and got back into it...it saved me and i don't want to ever let it go again.

Depending on what you might be looking for in a community and can afford in housing.

Wow is it really that tight out there wi5th housing and all? I talked to a guy who said there were waiting lists and such for apartments...I marvel at the idea of living in a state where there is less than half a milloion poeple when Detroit has just under a million and the total area like 1.5 million.

Keep any advice, or suggestions coming please.

Wy does let you pick up several doe tags for deer and speed goats. Plus you can hunt alot longer then Colorado. If you dont fill your tag(s) you can still hunt there hole gun season also.(which is still great bowhunting) Oh and the coyotes come on a string there in the bighorns. If me or my dad could shoot good (seems we are coyote cursed) we should of bow killed 6 in 3 days. Not counting the other doz. or so that hung up and 60 or so yards.

If you have time, Pinedale is a nice town, has some good hunting close by. Saw some HUGe elk!!! Lots of goats, not as many muledeer as I ould have expected though. Bears too, saw a nice cinamon. No turkeys though. Great fishing!!!

any where in the bighorns would be great, But the bow season is extreemly short in Wy. You would be better off in MT

There is a very limited number of Trad Bow hunters within the state. Makes for good and bad, not much for fellowship or products at hand.

However you don't have ta share your passion with alot of the gen. public

Jackson Hole would be a nice place to settle down...

You would, however, need to bring a tractor-trailer loaded with $100 dollar bills...

Is a month to hunt elk with a bow not long enough? Plus the four month season you could hunt deer with a bow if you wanted.

I have spent alot of time in Wyoming. you will not suffer from a lack of hunting anywhere in the state...If I had to pick a spot it would be Buffalo

You might want to have a realy well paying job if your going to live in the Buffalo, Sheridan, Gillete area. It's not as bad as Jackson but not far behind either.

Lots of good white tail deer and turkey hunting in the upper north east part of the state around, Devils Tower. When I last hunted there I saw hundreds of deer. From Devils Tower going east toward South Dakota they were so plentiful along side the road you had to be careful least you hit them. Alaska Jim

there are about 10 million oilfield works in WY right now, be prepared, going to be a lot different then what you think, wy is a great place but with all the drilling, better have a good paying job
all the prices are inflated right now,land, housing, fuel, etc. do some research.

I know nothing about WY. That being said, I know plenty about wanting to move west. For what it's worth I would try to find a location that is close to another states border for some out of state action in addition to WY offerings. Good luck and lucky you.
