I put a new string on and was setting the nock point when I decided to check the speed of my Wes Wallace longbow. It is 62" 54#@28" and with 520 gr. arrows it was shooting at 160 fps.  Is that about the average for this setup? It is fast enough for me. I was just wondering how it stacks up with what you guys shoot.

That seems like a real honest number, you gotta wonder about some of the longbow speeds you here posted.
Speed only kills deer on the end of a bullet and on the highway anyways..  :readit:    :archer:

I have a Savannah, 55#@28, shooting an arrow that's in the neighborhood of high 400's, I don't recall (28.5" GT 5575 w/tubes and 100 gr. tip), and getting 174 FPS so I would say it's about the same considering the weight difference.

Along the lines of what Big Dog said, it's only got to be fast enough to poke a hole to let the fluid out.
Skeater who?

I am shooting a BW long bow 53@28 and I draw 27".

I forgot to say I was shooting sitka spruce 11/32" with 3 5"feathers, fletched helical. Do you think if I went with 3 4" straight or slight twist I would gain much? My main concern is accuracy and penetrate when hunting. But going into the 3D season I am thinking about target archery. I guess I need to make up some target archery arrows and go from there.
