My uncle in law had a very scary experience this weekend. He was the one who got me in to trad bow hunting, and I owe my passion to him. He and his wife take in underpriviledged/at risk youth on the weekends (and some full time) and give them a safe place to stay, play and generally be kids. He makes his own bows and also has quite a few commercially produced bows. It has been rather hot in this part of the country for what seems like the last 3 months. Anyway, he was getting ready to take a nap, just had to un-string all 8 of the kids bows plus his own and he would be good to go. 7 down, just his own hunting bow left. Unfortunately as he was un-stringing his longbow, his hand slipped due to sweat and the upper limb hit him in the eye. I will keep everybody updated, but our family and especially my uncle Don could really use your prayers. He seems to be in good spirits, and was in a good mood while in the hospital claiming "at least it wasnt' my shooting eye!" We think the eye can be saved but we aren't sure what type of vision he will have it that eye. They are currently looking for a specialist that will be able to help him (insurance problems   :(  ) all I ask for is your prayers for a quick recovery for Don so he can get back to shooting   :archer:

Dang...I think about that all the time when I'm unstringing a bow.  I always look away and try to keep my head out of the line of recoil when not using a stringer.  My thoughts go out to Don...a speedy recovery and excellent prognosis!

Kind Regards -

Kris

He is a really good guy, and he will appreciate your thoughts and prayers. The first time I tried stringing a bow he hollered at me to look away and not make any sudden jerky movements. Needless to say he ahs strung/unstrung quite a few bows, but an accident can happen to any one of us at any time. He made me promise I would use a stringer from now on, and I am going to heed his advice.

Broke my bow on sunday.  Just thankful it hit me in the neck and not the eye.

Prayers for good news for a good man. Even with a stringer, caution is absolutely necessary. I had one hit me in the mouth years ago. Check every string groove, every time, with my body parts out of the line of recoil.

Prayers from here also.  Accidents happen with bows even using stringers! Friend here almost lost an eye, but was lucky.

Will ask the Lord to keep your Uncle close to His heart in this recovery!
