Since the thread for the longest shot is going I thought I would start this one to see what some of your closest have been. Most my shots are between 10 and 20 yards but here are a few of my closer ones.

Still-hunt and stalk;

WT 6 point, 10 feet, heart, coming off bed
WT spike, 8 feet, lungs, turned when it saw me
WT spike, 6 feet, lungs, bedded
WT doe, 4 feet, straight on chest shot, I saw it coming, dropped to my knees on the trail and drew back. It walked right to me.

Tree Stand;

WT 4 point, 5 paces from tree

Blind;

Never really used one

I killed a 9 ptr two years ago on the ground at about 5 feet.  That same year i killed a doe at about 8 yards.

Hot Hap

Small buck on the ground at 18". I had to lean backwards to keep from hitting deer with my broadhead when drawing my bow. Easy shot but what a rush. Shawnee Traditions Longbow 58# @ 30". Hap

Wild Pig on Guam at 3 feet, stalked up on a group busy feeding under a soursap tree, they never knew I was there till she squeeled when I hit her,quartering away got both lungs and the heart with a 4 blade Magnum I head, Goldtip 75/95 out of my 63# Robertson Vision Falcon IV.

Bull moose at 8 yards.  I called him in and he came straight on until he hit 8 yards and he turned broadside.  I got him through both lungs.  As he bolted I called at him once more, he actually stopped and came back.  He fell over on his way back 15 yards from where I hit him.  Unfortunately I was still shooting compound at the time.

Shot a cow elk at about 6 ft give or take a ft and a 5 pt bull a few years later at 7 yards.  Both were double lungs and died within 50 yds.

Almost shot a cow at three feet as she jumped over a bush in front of me and flew by.  But that would be "the closest flying shot".  LOL

90% of what I've killed has come under 10 yards. Several whitetails at 3-4 yards and turkeys also.

CheapShot

Last season while I was still hunting a pretty thick area along a creek bottom, I had a squirrel comming straight at me along the ground. He must have thought I was a tree, and had intentions of climbing me. I shot him between the eyes at three feet with a Zwicky two blade. No blood trail.  :bigsmyl:

Huntrdfk

4 yards on a whitetail, and 9 yards on a turkey.  Last year I had a doe walk up to within a foot of me while on the ground, never got a shot off but what a rush!

2 feet- 9 point whitetail around 120 inches...he came out of a pine thicket- I just happened to be stalking the edge of the pines where they changed to hardwoods.

A doe had run across the open woods behind me, around 100 yards so I turned around and backed up to a tree, glassing the area she ran through when I heard footsteps behind me, coming my way.

I put my binocs down, grabbed my bow handle (whenever I stand still, I always nock an arrow and put it in my arrow holder so its ready) and this big bodied dude came by in that low crawl kind of like a scent-trailing dog walk/runs, you know? That doe running across was ahead of him in the pine thicket and I guess when he heard her bust out he figured he would cut the corner on her.

I ran the arrow through him almost shooting straight down- leaning over to get through both lungs- he went down in 20 yards.

Love will do it to a man every time!

Everything I shoot is 25 yards and under, but the most common yardage is under 5 yards.
