Leather Bear St Charles Quiver

1961 was the first year and the hood was smooth elk skin.
Through the 60s the ads said the hood was elk but I seem to remember them being suede.
In 1971 the hood switched to a black pebbled vinyl.
Your's appears to be suede and well worn with holes from the tag pins. It has also been painted/stained/dyed. The accessory pouch is not the factory pouch.
You are being very, very,(one more) very optimistic.

Ron-  I believe the very first St. Charles quivers from 1961 were the suede version.The next generation was the smoother elk hide you mentioned and the last version was the "pleather" version.Considering the condition,I agree that he is being "very" optimistic.

It's actually in very good condition.  The coloring on it appears to be chalk that someone used as "camo" and could likely be cleaned off it desired.  I think the back tag adds character and some history to it.  I initially listed it in the classifieds with the caveat that "I don't know what it's worth, make me an offer" but had to add a price to keep the admins from pulling the ad.

Ron- I hear you.I suffer from the same brain-freeze from time to time myself.

JJB2- If the camo is chalk and can be cleaned off without damaging or altering the suede,that would help with the value.Whether or not the backtag is a plus or a negative depends on who's looking and what they're looking for.If someone wants a very nice,original first version St. Charles quiver with no flaws for a collection,this may not be the best choice.But if someone were wanting a very cool piece of archery history with evidence of some use,which it was intended for,and wants a nice display piece,then this quiver would be perfect.A great quiver and a great idea for a quiver either way.Good luck with it.
