1968 - This T/D I believe employs basically the final latch design, however the sockets are simpler. I have never seen one in person, but they appear to be more handmade and not nearly as strong as the production model. I am not positive, but most of these protos do not have the typical V-accent in the riser, and I believe many or most or all are Black Walnut. This proto is before the Walnut with V accent that Fred was using in the 1969 ads. It is akin to the handle Dick Mauch used to shoot a Leopard, I think. Wade, I believe you have either the handle Dick used or one very similar in your collection?

I tried resizing the pic, actually I made it nearly microscopic in photobucket. But, it still is large when I copy the IMG code. And yes it is the code for the newly resized pic. Oh well, I deleted so I do not get in trouble.

Try a shot at #21.  The third document was the 1967 1/2 Bear catalog. The difference was that in 1968, the Super Kodiak had a phenolic handle with Rosewood caps.

#23  The dogs name is Scot.  Owner is Fred Bear. Appears in "Fred Bear Biography" page 8, and in "Hunt With Fred Bear" page 3.
